New research shows that mansplaining happens six times a week at work to the average woman. This is equivalent to 312 times a year.

A study held by OnePoll for Self analyzed the modern workforce and what women go through in the workplace.

Findings showed that three in five women believe that men are not aware they are explaining information women already knew.

A survey of 2,000 employed women revealed that two in five women have heard comments from their male colleagues that they "come on too strong."

Responses also disclosed that three in four women admit they are underpaid and deserve more compensation in their current position.

In addition, the women feel they are being short-changed by a huge amount. The average woman claims that she must be earning $11,631.35 more annually.

Based on the survey, the average woman thinks her male counterparts are earning $8,964.06 more on an annual basis.

Same opportunities

Meanwhile, 65% do not think their company offers the same opportunities for women as the men in the workplace.

A third of working women share that their organization has no female supervisors. With this, 62% do not expect to remain employed under the same company due to lack of professional opportunities.

The survey also reveals the reasons why women would leave their jobs. Harassment is at the top of the list. A lack of work flexibility was second, while the rest of top five are unequal pay, lack of strong implementation of company policies, and insufficient company transparency.

“To thrive at work, women want fundamental things like safety and the support needed to get their jobs done,” said a spokesperson for Self. “Equal pay and benefits like childcare and flexibility for working parents (not just moms) shouldn’t be considered radical requests.”

“Ultimately, empowering women in the workplace can be good for both women and their employers, it doesn’t have to be an either-or situation.”
