Best and worst airports in UK revealed by a consumer group survey

Belfast International is at the lowest ranking in the annual survey of the best and worst airports in UK by consumer group Which?

The Northern Ireland airport has received numerous complaints about long queues, crowds and limited shopping options, making it the worst airport in UK. The survey of the best and worst airports in UK covers 30 British airports and major terminals.

Belfast International garnered a customer approval rating of 42 percent, with a one-star mark in the areas of seating, staffing and queuing at security.

A representative from the airport claims it had faced “significant operational challenges” in the last 18 months, but there has been an improvement in passenger satisfaction levels following a £1 million upgrade to the airport’s security facilities.

The second to the worst airport in the survey is London Luton, which now has a 43 percent score after being the UK’s worst rated airport for three consecutive years. London Luton was being criticized for its limited seating and packed security queues.

According to the consumer group’s data, the participants who said if there was an airport they would never fly from, a quarter of them would select Luton.

Other airports that landed on the bottom of the ranking were Manchester Terminal 3, London Stansted, Aberdeen, and Manchester Terminal 1. Their rankings reflected more than 6,000 airport customer experiences.

On the other hand, the country’s best-rated airport is Doncaster Sheffield. The airport achieved a score of 86 percent and retained its crown for the third year. Doncaster Sheffield got five star accolades for queuing experiences at security and passport control. The airport was also praised for its seating, toilets, and level of staffing.

Following Doncaster Sheffield are London Southend, Southampton, Exeter, and Bournemouth, surpassing the scores of some of the country’s larger flight hubs.

The Which? survey was held in April and May, involving 4,499 of its members with about 6,237 airport experiences.
