Conor McGregor announces return to UFC in January 2020

Mixed martial artist Conor McGregor has announced that he will be coming out of retirement to return to the UFC on January 18, 2020.

The 31-year-old McGregor, who have retired seven months prior, said that he will be returning to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in January of next year. At a news conference, he claimed that he is "in prime physical condition" to fight.

McGregor has not fought in the UFC octagon since Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated him in October 2018 at UFC 229. He said: "This date is agreed. I don't care who will be my opponent."

According to McGregor, he had agreed with the UFC to fight on January 18, 2019 and that he will also be sekking a later match in Moscow against the eventual winner of the match between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. The two are scheduled to fight in early 2020.

"It takes 66 days to form a habit. Now I go to bed early and get up early. A structured approach is the key to success. All billionaires must be organized. I will focus on the fight, I will not drink alcohol," he added.

Mcgregor debuted in mixed martial arts in 2007 and knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds to capture the interim featherweight title. He initially announced his retirement in April 2016 but later that month, he retracted his announcement and then fought Nurmagomedov two years later.

He has been plagued by a number of controversies in recent years. In 2018, a court ordered McGregor to take anger management training and perform five days of community service in exchange of dropping criminal charges after he attacked a bus containing rival UFC fighters.

He was seen in a video footage throwing a railing at a bus carrying Khabib and a number of other UFC fighters.

In March of this year, he was arrested in Miami for allegedly destroying the phone of a phone but charges were dropped later.
