The Detroit Lions have decided to release running back C.J. Anderson and quarterback Josh Johnson after acquiring running back Paul Perkins and quarterback Jeff Driskel.

The Lions got Perkins on Tuesday night off waivers from the New York Giants while the team signed Driskel after being waived by the Cincinnati Bengals off the injured reserve list via an injury settlement last week.

Anderson, who helped the Los Angeles Rams reach the Super Bowl last season, ran for 43 yards on 16 carries in two games as a backup to Kerryon Johnson. He looked sluggish and averaged only 2.7 yards per carry in those two games. In the match against the Chargers, he was outperformed by rookie Ty Johnson who ran 30 yards on five carries while he had eight yards on the same amount of carries.

For his career, he posted 3,497 yards rushing and scored 22 touchdowns. He has played for Denver, Carolina, Los Angeles and Detroit.

Meanwhile, John Johnson was just signed by the Lions on August 10 but was let go by the team following the roster moves by the Detroit Lions.

Perkins was drafted by the Giants in the fifth round three years ago and played for the UCLA Bruins in college and led the Pac-12 Conference in rushing as a sophomore in 2014.

As a rookie, he averaged 4.1 yards per carry but was not able to play the previous season due to a pectoral injury. He played for the Giants in the first two games of this season.

Driskel will serve as a backup for Matthew Stafford, along with rookie David Blough. He suffered a hamstring injury during training camp and his position on the roster was taken over by rookie Ryan Finley.
