US motherhood company Mothers Lounge has received criticism for sending pregnancy congratulation cards to women who aren't expecting a baby.

Mothers Lounge implemented a marketing strategy which involved sending unsolicited gift vouchers and congratulation cards saying "Holy guacamole, you're going to avo baby" to random women, which sparked anger from the recipients.

Many recipients took to social media their complaint over receiving the cards from the Utah-based firm, calling it "insensitive" and that it had caused awkward conversations. According to the company, it used a third-party marketing company's opt-in list for this campaign.

Initially, the women who received the cards signed by a "Jenny B" thought that it was from one of their friends. Numerous women across the US posted on social media the question: "Who is Jenny B?"

Twitter user @scpurplegurl wrote: "Anyone know a Jenny B with a pregnant friend named Rachel in Dallas? I got this by mistake. #FindJennyB" while user @agnetts tweeted: "Who the hell is Jenny B and why did she send me $245 in giftcards to my childhood home congratulating me on my pregnancy?! This is literally how my mother thought she was finding out that I was pregnant. I'm calling the FBI."

The user behind the @agnetts account resides in Memphis, Tennessee but she said the card was sent to her parents' home in Nashville. She added: "I got a call from my mother who asked me if there was something I wanted to tell her. She was really worried and it was scaring me. It was a really awkward situation and caused a lot of distress for the pair of us."

Another recipient Ellie Hunter Acosta said the card was also sent to her parents' house and she asked her mother to open the it. She narrated: "But when she opened it, she was immediately so excited and completely freaked out."

Jenny B is presumed to be Jenny Bosco, who co-founded the company alongside Kaleb Pierce in 2005, according to the Mothers Lounge website.
