A German woman living in Queensland was shocked after discovering a snake eating a rat inside her toilet bowl one morning.

Jana Engler, who has lived in Cairns, Queensland for 11 years after moving from Germany, woke up early to go to the markets but was surprised to discover a snake eating a rat in her toilet bowl.

Engler, who owns Jana's Bakehouse known around town for its artisan sourdough, has had only a few encounters with snakes in Australia so she was surprised with what she found. She told Yahoo News Autralia: "Years and years ago, I had one in my house and I had another one outside, but that was over a year ago."

She understood that snakes such as carpet pythons are commonly found by Queensland residents and are somewhat friendly but she would never want to catch or touch one. He added: "I certainly don’t like them in my toilet."

Ms. Engler thinks that she may have seen the same snake about a week ago before she found it in her toilet. She narrated: "We were over at a neighbour’s house and the dogs were going nuts in the garden and then we went outside and we saw it slithering over to my house and up a tree next to myself."

She mentioned that while her six-year-old son, TJ, did not like touching snakes, he was interested in them so she quickly went to his bedroom to wake him up and show him what she found. To trap the snake in the bathroom, she closed the door and went back a few hours later with a snake catcher.

However, in her return, the snake was gone but the dead rat remained in the toilet bowl.

She said: "When he [the snake catcher] came, he went in there and he thought it might be under the rim, like where the water comes out. So he was heating up the toilet with a hair dryer and looking for it, but it had disappeared."
