The Washington Nationals have defeated host Houston Astros 6-2 in Game 7 at Minute Maid Park to win their first World Series title in franchise history.

The Washington Nationals is the first road team in history to win every game in a World Series after defeating the host team Houston Astros. The Nationals finished the regular seas as a wild-card team.

Anthony Rendon and Howie Kendrick both hit home runs to power the team. Nationals Manager Dave Martinez said: "There's guys that in a big moment you want up there. They've come through all year long for us in big ways. They have the knack to stay calm and do what they need to do."

Starting pitcher Max Scherzer, who threw for five innings, only gave up two runs while  starter turned reliever Patrick Corbin pitched three innings and held the Astros scoreless. Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect ninth to close the game.

Scherzer, who missed Game 5 with back and neck spasms, said: "It just means that I am part of the greatest team in 2019. These guys, they battled. It was stay in the fight, that was our motto. Everybody gave it their all."

The Astros initially took control of the game when Yuli Gurriel hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second inning to make it 1-0 and in the bottom of the fifth, Carlos Correa singled off Rendon's glove to score Gurriel, who had grounded into a force play and gone to second on a walk to Yordan Alvarez, making the score 2-0.

However, the Astros did not score a single run again and in the seventh inning, Astros reliever Will Harris gave up the go-ahead home run to Kendrick. The Nationals took over the game and opened the eight inning with a run and closed the game with two runs in the ninth and final inning.
