The Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) released coronavirus guidelines and tips on how to protect oneself and prevent the spread of the virus.

CDC points out that the best way to avoid being sick is to minimize one's expose to the virus, which can spread mainly from person-to-person. This means between people who are within about six feet close.

The virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can also be transmitted through respiratory droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. People may take in these droplets once they land in mouths or noses.

To protect oneself, CDC encourages the public to frequently wash their hands with soap and water. Proper hand washing lasts for at least 20 seconds.

This length of time is recommended to people who have been in a public place or have blown their nose, coughed, or sneezed.

A hand sanitizer can be an alternative if soap and water are not available. A hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol is recommended.

When using a sanitizer, one must cover all surfaces of the hands and rub them until they are dry.

One of the tips to prevent the spread of coronavirus from CDC is to avoid touching the face with unwashed hands.

Avoiding close contact with people who are sick is also important. "Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick," according to CDC.

What to do if one is sick

CDC advises people who feel sick to stay home or get medical care if necessary. One should also cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of the elbow. Used tissues must also be thrown in the trash.

An individual who is not feeling well should wear a face mask. If one is not feeling sick, there is no need to wear a mask unless they are caring for someone who is sick. Disinfecting surfaces must also be done at home and public areas.
