People who have received or are expecting their stimulus check can also expect a letter from US President Donald Trump, according to CNN's report.

CNN got a copy of the letter signed by the President. Recipients of the stimulus payments also received this letter.

The one-page letter is in an envelope from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as part of the Treasury Department. The notice on the envelope says IRS paid for both postage and fees.

"We are fully committed to ensuring that you and your family have the support you need to get through this time," the letter says. The document also notifies the recipient the exact amount they would receive and how.

The letter has a translated Spanish version of the same text on the other side.

Trump expresses his gratitude to the Congress for passing the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), "which I proudly signed into law."

CNN learned about this letter from recipients in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland.

Trump said during a press briefing that the act required the government to "send out a notice of what benefits" Americans will receive."

To complete the requirement, "the Treasury Department is mailing a letter to me," he said.

Requirements

"Not later than 15 days after the date on which the (Treasury) Secretary distributed any payment to an eligible taxpayer pursuant to this subsection, notice shall be sent by mail to such taxpayer's last known address," the legislation says.

Moreover, "Such notice shall indicate the method by which such payment was made, the amount of such payment, and a phone number for the appropriate point of contact at the Internal Revenue Service to report any failure to receive such payment."

On Friday, the Treasury Department reported that over 88 million people received stimulus payments in the past week.

As of April 17, around 62 million people were still waiting for the payments.

Americans with an income less than $99,000 are due up to $1,200. Meanwhile, married couples can get up to $2,400. The amount changes as income increases.

Democrats criticized the inclusion of a note with Trump's name on it in the physical checks sent out with the stimulus payments.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin admitted during CNN's "State of the Union" last week it was Trump's idea to put the name on the check.

"Not delaying anything"

Earlier this month, Trump claims his name inside the stimulus payment was not a big deal. It would not hamper the process of distributing paper checks to Americans, according to the president.

"Well, I don't know too much about it, but I understand my name is there. I don't know where they're going, how they're going," he said.

"I do understand it's not delaying anything. And I'm satisfied. I don't imagine it's a big deal. I'm sure people will be very happy to get a big fat beautiful check and my name is on it."

The White House did not comment on who decided to include a letter from the President in the payments. The Treasury Department did not respond to a request for a comment.
