E-commerce giant Amazon has decided not to participate at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Amazon became the latest major company to pull out from the MWC, one of the world's largest tech shows due to risk associated with the coronavirus outbreak.

The firm stated that "due to the outbreak and continued concerns about novel coronavirus" it would no longer take part in MWC 2020 in Barcelona.

While the organizer of the show, the GSM Association (GSMA), said MWC, which attracts 100,000 people annually, will push through, it admitted that other companies are deliberating whether to join the event.

South Korea's LG Electronics, Swedish telecoms equipment-maker Ericsson, and US chip company NVIDIA have already withdrawn from the conference which will be held from February 24 to 27 this year.

LG made public its decision to pull out from the event several hours after GSMA released a statement on the coronavirus saying: "There is minimal impact on the event thus far". Chinese firm ZTE has also canceled plans for a press conference at the event due to the virus but it will still host a stand.

In a statement, LG said: "With the safety of its employees and general public foremost in mind, LG has decided to withdraw from exhibiting and participating in MWC 2020 later this month in Barcelona, Spain."

However, GSMA said that while it could "confirm some large exhibitors have decided not to come to the show this year with others still contemplating next steps, we remain more than 2,800 exhibitors strong".

The organizer announced plans to place additional measures to "reassure attendees and exhibitors that their health and safety are our paramount concern," including a ban on all travellers from China's Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak.

Also, people who have been in China must provide proof they have been outside the country for 14 days to be able to attend the show.
