Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by 47% to 38% among registered voters, according to the CNBC All-America Economic Survey.

Biden has risen out to a 9 point lead on Trump five months before the presidential election. However, the results show the president still has an advantage among voters in terms of discussing the US economy.

Findings confirm Biden leading Trump by 47% to 38% among registered voters, which is up 4 points from his lead in April.

Biden's lead is attributed to increased support among young and wealthier voters. He consolidated his base, getting a 7 point gain in his approval among Democrats.

Meanwhile, Trump lost support from independents, getting an 11-point drop. However, those independents did not make it to Biden’s column. The 11-point increase went to independents who claimed they are undecided.

The survey asked 800 Americans nationwide and was held from Friday to Monday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Figures suggest Biden is dominating or even with Trump on all critical issues except the economy. Meanwhile, voters favored the president by 44% to 38% when it comes to economic policies.

Biden recorded a 14 point advantage on handling the coronavirus outbreak, 16 points on health care, and 25 points on policies for racial equality.

The former vice president showed a slight edge on issues such as immigration and dealing with China.

“The economy may be what President Trump’s saving grace is going forward,” said Jay Campbell, partner with Hart Research Associates and worked as the Democratic pollster for the survey.

Trump’s approval rating on the economy dropped from 52% to 46% in April. Disapproval increased to 46% from 38%. However, those figures are far better than his overall rating, which dove to 39% approval and 52% disapproval.

EIU report

According to a report from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Joe Biden has big chances of winning in the presidential election in November.

Economists predict that Joe Biden has huge chances of winning the election as the odds have moved “firmly” in favor of him.

According to EIU’s report, the forecast for the election had showed a different direction in recent months. While economists believe it would be closely fought, “the odds have now shifted firmly in Mr. Biden’s favour.”

Early in 2020, economists projected that President Donald Trump may win another term due to a thriving economy, low unemployment, and clashes within the Democratic Party. However, the economists believe those things have changed due to the coronavirus crisis, the recession, and the series of civil unrest in half a century.

“Trump’s response to both crises has further exposed his divisive style, which is unpopular among the independent voters who will be critical in deciding the election’s outcome,” the report noted.

“Meanwhile, Democratic voters have rallied behind their nominee, Joe Biden.”

Data shows that Trump has an advantage due to a strong base, which analysts say accounts for 40% to 44% of the population. However, the EIU said Trump persuade voters from outside of that core base to win against Biden in November.

“The Trump campaign has lost most of its previous advantages in recent months,” analysts said. “As a result, we do not expect him to be able to generate enough support from swing voters to follow the same narrow path to victory in 2020.”
