US President Donald Trump claims that the government will be able to manage and control the spread of coronavirus in the country.

"It's a very contagious virus, it's incredible, but it's something we have tremendous control of," the President said.

Reports show that the number of US coronavirus infections has already reached at least 3,485, including 65 deaths. This is a record of more than 500 cases of coronavirus in a day and an increase from a case load of 457 a week ago.

During the same day Trump Tweeted that US has a control of the coronavirus conundrum, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, stated that the US could experience the kind of situation Italy has suffered from if citizens do not observe self-isolation and social distancing.

Measures like self-isolation and social distancing are created to flatten the curve of infections.

In a CNN program, Fauci was asked whether the fatality of hundreds of thousands of Americans is possible. He said "It could happen, and it could be worse." Fauci noted that restraints on public interactions were designed to "try and make that not happen."

"If we go about our daily lives and not worry about everything," the death toll could be high, Fauci added.

"People sometimes think that I'm overreacting. I like it when people are thinking I'm overreacting because that means we're doing it just right." Fauci also emphasized that he does not dismiss calling a national lockdown in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

The U.S. government is expected to release guidelines on social distancing.

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday advised the public to not hold gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks.

In another Tweet, Trump stated: “We are doing very precise Medical Screenings at our airports. Pardon the interruptions and delays, we are moving as quickly as possible, but it is very important that we be vigilant and careful. We must get it right. Safety first!”
