US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over South Korean film Parasite winning this year's Academy Award for best picture.

Speaking at a rally in Colorado, President Trump criticized the Academy Awards for selecting Parasite, a South Korean film, as this year's winner for best picture.

Trump said: "How bad were the Academy Awards this year, did you see? 'And the winner is ... a movie from South Korea.' What the hell was that all about? We've got enough problems with South Korea with trade, on top of it they give them the best movie of the year?"

Parasite made history at this year's Academy Awards by becoming the first foreign language film to win best picture. The South Korean movie also won awards for directing and original screenplay.

However, Trump was not impressed although he said he did not know if the film was good. He asked: "I thought it was best foreign film, best foreign movie -- no, it was the best. Did this ever happen before?"

He also expressed interest in bringing back old American films. "I'm looking for like, let's get 'Gone with the Wind' -- can we get like 'Gone with the Wind' back, please? 'Sunset Boulevard,' so many great movies," he said.

In response to his comments, Neon, the US distributor of Parasite, responded on Twitter: "Understandable, he can't read."

The president also criticized Brad Pitt, who during his speech for best supporting actor mentioned John Bolton's absence from the President's Senate impeachment trial.

Trump claimed: "I was never a big fan of his. He got up, said a little wise-guy statement. Little wise guy, he's a little wise guy."

Pitt joked about how the Senate voted against allowing witnesses during the trial. He said: "They told me I only had 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week."

"I'm thinking maybe Quentin (Tarantino) does a movie about it and in the end the adults do the right thing," Pitt added.
